A £17,500 ($35,500) prize fund has already been underwritten. Chairman of the event, Lionel Freedman, says "We've been working very hard at this since the inaugural championship event took place last year, and it is bound to give us global recognition. Indeed, the national hickory champion of the USA, Mike Stevens, is coming over to compete".

Hamilton & Inches have very kindly provided a beautiful solid silver quaich to be presented to the World Hickory Champion whose name will be engraved on the plinth.
